The making of
Kalpana Eklavya Vidyalayam

“Our area has a good road network. We get electricity for more than 20 hours a day. But unfortunately, we don’t have a good CBSE School in our locality. We will be grateful if you help in setting up a school in this area where our children can get quality education.” This is how Santosh Kumar pleaded with Nagendra Kumar, an IIT Kanpur alumnus from nearby Mirnagar Village, when he met him providentially in Sep’22 during a morning walk at the outskirts of his village Ahiyapur in Sarmera Block of Nalanda District. His appeal struck a sympathetic chord with Nagendra Kumar. This meeting, although a brief one, had set the ball rolling for setting up a school in the area.

The next major task was identification of a suitable piece of land for construction of necessary infrastructure for the school. For this purpose, Santosh Kumar contacted several people from his village as well as from neighboring villages. A few suitable sites were identified for the school. He got a breakthrough when one of his friends, Subodh Kumar from Parnawan village, agreed to offer one acre of his family land for the school project. Overwhelmed with this idea of a prospective school coming up in his village, he took the initiative on his own to approach other landholders who had land adjacent to his land.

why

He got wholehearted support from Rajeev Ranjan and Hareram Prasad Singh. Finally, with a lot of deliberation among themselves they were able to arrange a total of three acres of land with the help of other landholders Tirpurari Singh, Munni Devi, Rubi Kumari and Sanjay Kumar. The land was sufficient to meet the requirements of a 10+2 school.

The next breakthrough came when Mukesh Kumar Vidyarthi, a first-generation entrepreneur and a successful business leader, willingly came forward and decided to form a trust for starting a school. He was joined by Subhojit Kar, another IIT Kanpur graduate and others. Finally, a trust named Samskara Bharat Foundation was registered in the month of May’23. Thus, the very first and critical step towards setting up a school was completed with the registration of the trust.

In the meantime, Sri Avinash Chandra Jha, the incumbent Principal of DAV School, BSEB Patna was approached through an acquaintance Sunil Kumar for his guidance. We shared our vision with him about the prospective school. After a few rounds of discussions with him, he asked us to meet Dr. R.K. Dubey, an author, and Ex Principal of D.A.V. School. Dr. Dubey appreciated our efforts in providing quality education to the growing up children from rural backgrounds. Subsequently he gave his consent for mentoring of the school and he also agreed to join as Director of the school.

Thus, the very idea that germinated from a brief meeting of two individuals finally started taking shape of a prospective school with an inspiring name Kalpana Eklavya Vidyalayam. It is named after Kalpana Chawla and Eklavya. Kalpana Chawla was a girl from a very humble background from a small town of Karnal Haryana, whose lofty dream and indomitable courage took her to space and became role model of countless Indian women. Eklavya is a character from the Indian Epic Mahabharata, who learnt archery with sincere practice and with devotion to his Guru Dronachaya and became epitome of discipleship, sacrifice and devotion after he gave away the thumb of his right hand as Guru Dakshina on a call from him. Both the Icons will keep inspiring our students to excel in their respective fields and will encourage them to inculcate values such as sacrifice, courage, discipleship, devotion in their day to today life.

Later Dr. Srinivas Padmanabhuni, an IIT Kanpur Alumnus and Dr Prayag Jha, an Ex-IRS (Income Tax) Kar agreed to be part of Advisory Board of the School along with Shri Subhojit Kar, the founding member of the Samskara Bharat Foundation.
